Measles - Are You Concerned?

Measles cases are on the rise.

Measles is a virus that often presents with fever, fatigue, runny nose, cough, red, watery eyes, and a characteristic rash that starts in the face and spreads down the body.

In the majority of cases, people recover without any long-term repercussions. In rare cases, it can lead to pneumonia or encephalitis (swelling of the brain).

Treatment is supportive care and vitamin A.

Families ask, “Should I be concerned?” “Do I need to vaccinate immediately?

Families understandably have questions about vaccines, including potential side effects and whether vaccination is appropriate for their individual circumstances.

Families can make informed decisions based on the best available evidence and their individual circumstances.

A person’s medical history, previous vaccine reactions, age, immune status, and exposure risk all matter when making healthcare decisions.
